Josh D. Reed is an accomplished trumpeter and educator, with degrees from the University of Colorado Boulder, the Eastman School of Music, and James Madison University. As a performer, Reed has had the privilege of sharing the stage with renowned artists such as Dave Douglas, Anat Cohen, Art Lande, Tommy Igoe, Greg Gisbert, Paquito D'Rivera, Rufus Reid, and Darlene Love. Reed currently leads his own trio, quartet, and quintet, showcasing his versatile musical style.
In addition to his career as a performer, Reed is equally dedicated to his role as an educator. He has taught private lessons, ensembles, and courses at prestigious institutions including Lagond Music School in New York, Metropolitan State University in Colorado, and the University of Colorado. Not limited to formal education settings, Reed has also reached communities across the United States, sharing his passion for music and inspiring aspiring musicians.
Reed's wealth of experience led him to direct the jazz program at the University of Missouri in the spring of 2017 before taking charge at the jazz program at Santa Clara University. Currently, Reed holds the position of Assistant Professor of jazz trumpet at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he joined the faculty in the fall of 2019.
Excitingly, Reed's musical journey continues with the highly anticipated release of his upcoming album, "No Signs Ahead," featuring collaboration with the acclaimed Dave King from the Bad Plus. This collaboration follows the success of Reed's first album, "Leaping Forward," where he showcased the exceptional talents of Art Lande. Furthermore, Reed's trumpet playing can also be enjoyed on noteworthy albums such as Manzanita Quintet's "Osmosis," Tim Wendel Septet's "Westward You," Art Deco's "Free Range," Emily Takahashi's "Not Spoken," Omar Thomas's "I Am," Matt Smiley's "Quartet Art," and Dillon Vado's "Never Weather."
